"Exhaustion". Isn't that what they usually are hospitalized for?
Anyway, I went to my doctor's appointment today. I told them about the pressure I'd been having in my chest, and they took my BP (right after weighing me, so you KNOW that stressed me out more) and it read as 168/124, really high. They immediately start rushing around, put me in a room, tell me to undress, lie down, and huddle around me, listening to my heart and then run an ECG. I am freaking out at that point. The reason I made the appointment in the first place was because I had convinced myself I had heart problems, but then considering the problems went away when I spent the weekend with E, and came back on Monday morning, I figured it was stress. My doctor eventually comes in, listens to my heart, says it sounds perfect, says my ECG is perfect, and starts asking me about what's going on. I tell her about how I'm not sleeping well, how I'm stretched so thin with work and school, and how spending time with E makes it better. She agrees it is stress and not a heart problem. She has me lie down in a dark, quiet room for a little while, then they re-take my BP and it's down to 154/102, still high but at least better and she says she doesn't think the first reading was accurate. She says I'm fine to exercise as long as I enjoy it, and says I have to start sleeping or she will put me on sleeping pills (tried to get me to take them but I avoid prescriptions if I can). She also put me on a BP med (a diuretic) that she says won't be permanent, just to help a little bit and as I am losing a bit of weight that will help also. But the main thing is to get more sleep and to do some enjoyable things. She made me promise I would try to go to the beach, or go see a movie, or something this weekend other than studying.
So, I'm very reassured to know my heart is fine, although it sucks to have a diagnosis of "hypertension" on my record now. Now I'll definitely have trouble getting health insurance on my own, even more than before.
She also offered a prescription for Wellbutrin, which is an anti-depressant but she says will help as an appetite suppressant and give me more energy. I didn't take it today, but I am thinking about it. Drugs scare me, and psychiatric drugs really scare me, especially with my mom's history (mild schizophrenia I think - she's functional and normal-acting now, but we went through some rough times).
